Now, let’s dive into advanced prompting techniques. Sander Schulhoff, the founder of Learn Prompting, published The Prompt Report1, the most comprehensive survey on prompting to date. In this report, he categorized prompting techniques into six main classifications: Zero-Shot, Few-Shot, Thought Generation, Decomposition, Ensembling, and Self-Criticism.

While many techniques overlap across these classifications, each one generally has a primary category that it fits best. Read on to explore these different classes of techniques and how they are used.
